A few weekends ago we took a trip to Fort Mountain State Park. The leaves were colorful and the weather was perfection. We headed towards Chatsworth, GA Friday after we picked Ella Kate up from school and stopped at the greatest country cooking restaurant ever, Edna's. So good!! The people were awesome and the food even better. After dinner we checked into our cabin at Fort Mountain State Park and did our first night hike. Dave bought John an early birthday present, a blue headlamp, and he was thrilled.
On Saturday morning and afternoon we did lots of hiking including finding our first geocaching treasure box. We headed back to our cabin for a spaghetti lunch (kids choice) and then made our way to the Elijay apple festival. We got to the festival about 3pm and there was hardly anyone there. It was awesome!! After the festival we headed back to the park for smores and a ranger talk for the kids about black bears.
We ended our trip with more hiking Sunday morning. It is amazing how much "smack talking" goes on during our camping trips. Ella Kate and John think they are hot stuff riding in the backpacks and it is a constant race between "Daddy" and "Mommy" in their eyes :) A good time was had by all!
John thought this was very cool.
Little man took it very seriously and did great!
Love these two.
We did not pack a single toy and the cabin did not have a tv so we had to entertain ourselves the old fashioned way. It was fun!
Dave teaching the kids to read a trail map :) They look so interested!
Love this picture. Notice how nicely Ella Kate has her leaves, sticks, and rocks organized. And then John just plops his all in a big pile :)
The Elijay Apple Festival wore John out.
While John took a quick nap Ella Kate had a camel ride.
Love these two.
Bouncy House Fun! These things never get old.
Check out John's face - they just got 1 more dollar from Dave to do another bouncy house. Daddy is a sucker :)
He loved the apple dumplings.
Making pancakes for breakfast.
Silly faces - trying to wait patiently for their pancakes to cook.
Ready to hit the trails.
Sweet girl is trying to teach her brother how to pose.
Ella Kate took our picture - thought she did a good job.
Rock climber.
The hike and views were beautiful.
Top of Fort Mountain.
We loved this cool tree.
Check out his modeling pose.
I hiked close to 9 miles with this little rat on my back while he thought it was hilarious to torment me with his new plastic snake :)
Gorgeous views.
Love my family and all our adventures.
